Winged Sun Comics

A creeping cosmic-horror piece told entirely by a haunted survivor's narration. On a doomed quest, an adventuring party pries a shed spiral stone from a cave and lets it fall to Helmsley's scrawny hen — and something ancient inside that god-shell wakes and begins wearing the bird. As the hen, Cluckthar, feeds on the party's wounds, nests horrors, and sings a buried divine tongue, the world itself starts turning into her nest, one body at a time.

    42 sec.

Against the narrator's better judgment, the party lifts a shed spiral stone from a cave. Back at camp the relic slides off the fighter on its own and coils around Helmsley's worthless hen. The bird goes still, turns, and fixes the fighter with an oily black eye — something inside her now, looking out.

The hen stops eating feed and pecks open the sleeping fighter's bandaged wound to drink the blood. Her feathers burn down to cracked black as she settles into a nest. The eggs come out huge and spiral-marked, and one unzips — spilling something pale and fast that scuttles loose into the dark.

The thing speaks through the sleeping bard, then Cluckthar begins to sing in High Arcadian, the forbidden tongue of a buried pantheon. The party wakes retching as the paladin realizes it's a god, not a curse. His holy symbol splits open and pours out maggots that crawl into rows spelling WELCOME.

The warlock tries his own magic and reaches for the amulet at the hen's breast. Her beak splits into a wet tunnel and a many-knuckled limb reaches for his face. He doesn't die — he flowers, golden and no longer shaped like a man, and clucks once as the party sinks to its knees in recognition.

The change spreads past the party into the woods — bark peeling in spirals over wet pink flesh, eggs appearing in boots and open mouths. The bard is found rooted to a tree, mouth sewn shut, rocking a clutch of eggs. Cluckthar stands at the center, remembering that the world was always her egg — and soon all of it will hatch.
